Energy Systems

A complete guide to Loftia's solarpunk energy systems β€” solar panels, wind turbines, and hydro generators that power your island

Loftia runs on clean, renewable energy. The floating islands are powered by a combination of solar, wind, and hydroelectric systems that embody the game’s solarpunk philosophy. Understanding these systems is key to advanced crafting and automation.

The Philosophy of Solarpunk Energy

In Loftia’s world, a great cataclysm β€” caused by unsustainable energy practices β€” shattered the old world. The survivors who built Loftia vowed never to repeat that mistake. Every energy system in the game reflects this commitment to harmony with nature.

The three energy types mirror the three elements that sustain life on the floating islands: sunlight, wind, and water.

Solar Power

How It Works

Solar panels convert Loftia’s abundant sunlight into usable energy. They work best in open areas where cloud cover is minimal.

Placement Requirements:

  • Must be placed in direct sunlight (no overhanging structures)
  • Panels can be placed on rooftops or ground mounts
  • Maximum 8 panels per island plot

Power Output:

  • Base panel: 5 energy units per hour (sunny), 2 (cloudy)
  • Upgraded panel: 12 energy units per hour (sunny), 5 (cloudy)
  • Night: 0 (panels store no power β€” requires batteries)

Crafting Solar Panels

Basic5 Copper, 3 Glass, 2 Wood5 units/h
Advanced8 Copper, 5 Glass, 3 Rare Gems12 units/h
Master12 Silver, 8 Glass, 5 Star Shards20 units/h

Wind Power

How It Works

Wind turbines harness the constant breezes that flow between floating islands. Higher altitudes generate more power.

Placement Requirements:

  • Must be elevated above ground level
  • No obstructions within range
  • Higher altitudes generate more power
  • Maximum 4 turbines per island plot

Power Output:

  • Base turbine: 8 energy units per hour (windy), 3 (calm)
  • Upgraded turbine: 18 energy units per hour (windy), 7 (calm)

Crafting Wind Turbines

TierMaterialsOutput
Basic8 Wood, 4 Rope, 2 Copper8 units/h
Advanced12 Wood, 6 Fabric, 4 Copper18 units/h
Master15 Reinforced Wood, 8 Fabric, 3 Crystals30 units/h

Hydro Power

How It Works

Hydro generators use the flow of water to generate power. They’re the most consistent energy source but require water infrastructure.

Placement Requirements:

  • Must be placed in or adjacent to flowing water
  • Waterfall locations provide bonus power
  • Requires channel system
  • Maximum 2 generators per water source

Power Output:

  • Base generator: 6 energy units per hour (constant)
  • Upgraded generator: 15 energy units per hour (constant)
  • Waterfall bonus: bonus multiplier

Crafting Hydro Generators

TierMaterialsOutput
Basic5 Stone, 3 Copper, 2 Rope6 units/h
Advanced8 Stone, 5 Copper, 3 Rubber15 units/h
Master12 Marble, 8 Silver, 5 Sky Gems25 units/h

Energy Storage

Power generation is useless without storage. Batteries store excess energy for use during night, calm weather, or dry spells.

Battery Types

TypeCapacityMaterialsDuration
Small Battery50 units3 Copper, 2 Zinc2 hours
Medium Battery150 units5 Copper, 4 Zinc, 1 Gem6 hours
Large Battery500 units8 Silver, 6 Zinc, 3 Gems24 hours

Smart Grid

At endgame, you can build a Smart Grid Controller that:

  • Automatically balances power between generation and storage
  • Prioritises essential systems (irrigation, lighting) over luxury
  • Displays real-time energy flow on a dashboard

Practical Applications

Automated Irrigation

Connect energy to an Auto-Irrigator to water all adjacent plots automatically. Frees you from manual watering entirely.

Island Lighting

Power street lamps and building lights. NPCs stay active later in well-lit areas.

Crafting Automation

Advanced crafting stations require energy per crafting cycle.

Weather Stations

Power a weather station that predicts coming storms and temperature changes β€” invaluable for crop planning.

Energy Efficiency Tips

  • Combine all three types for 24/7 coverage
  • Build batteries before expanding your grid
  • The Smart Grid Controller pays for itself in saved resources

Lore Note

The oldest energy installation in Loftia is the original hydro generator from the founding of the first settlement. It still works. The inscription reads: β€œWe learned from the fall. Let this wheel turn forever.”

Petra's potions aren't required but are very helpful.
